ZTE plans to introduce a solar powered phone that would be operating on the Android platform. The company would apparently utilize the proficiency expertise from its earlier solar-powered phone christened as the Coral 200 Solar.
The handset will probably be equipped with rear-mounted solar panels. It claims to be an ideal phone for the future. Optimistically, the photovoltaic displays would be functional even if the handsets are down the road. They would then absorb the sun’s power irrespective of the side they’re facing.
Ubergizmo reports that ZTE’s current solar panels are capable of charging the phone for 15 minutes of call time for each hour in the sun. The handset can be charged in the conventional way too.
The phone is scheduled for launch in Q2 2010.Apparently, the handset would be priced approximately $40.
